It’s never just a ride.
Justin* needs to see a counselor every week as part of his mental health care treatment plan. Susan* lives alone and her family rarely visits, so getting to church on Sunday is a vital part of her inclusion in community. Charles* relies on others to get him to work at the grocery store as part of LifeScape’s program for independent living. Each have dreams, struggles, a story. Each is a person needing support and love. That’s where Project CAR excels.
The anonymity of a bus, Uber, or Lyft ride is appealing to some. But for others, there is a longing for the safety and reliability of being with someone you trust. It is especially true for those who cannot afford other costly transit options, knowing that asking for help is a vulnerable thing to do. Many of our riders appreciate the relationship that is formed with their volunteer driver during repeated rides to health care, church activities, or work. It nurtures trust and builds community so that the ride isn’t just a ride – it’s a part of the process of maintaining the dignity and self-worth of each person.
People like Justin, Susan, and Charles rely on Project CAR to thrive and feel safe. That’s why your help is so crucial. Your support will ensure that we continue providing low- and no-cost rides to some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
